The Music Making and Wellness Project has demonstrated that playing music may improve health. Study results suggest that adults involved in MUSIC classes experience:

These startling findings are the result of a recent study undertaken jointly by the Michigan State University, Appalachian State University, University of South Florida, University of Miami, Karolinska Medical Institute (Sweden), the University of Kansas, and Western Michigan University. The study followed various health measures in 130 retired people taking group keyboard lessons.
